The pause that refreshes

I have mentioned it before but you go six months without hot water and you will understand my glee getting on a plane for a very long ride. Not that hot water comes before Denise but we talk everyday for an hour or more whereas I dream of hot water especially in the winter. Insects not crawling over me at night while I sleep or hiding in my clothes in the morning is an added bonus. I know, I made my bed so sleep in it. True dat but I had no idea I would grow old in it.

This is typical for July 4th in SF.

And yet another Goldsworthy installation

Not the best photo but that is Jan, an old college buddy. In past years in different decades we spent a lot of time together doing very bad things on many occasions! Still alive is our mantra. There were times in Detroit that were especially grim. One time, 1970 ish, we got caught in a riot, a serious riot at an inner city high school and had to run for our lives. Thank god Jan had a convertible. I hit the front seat on the run as Jan slowed down driving by. The Jesus freak chasing me screaming "repent, repent", he got f'ked! They got him. We did not start the riot---we were working for the Board of Education and they had us installing the first iron screens on the windows turning the place into a zoo of sorts. Let's just say it didn't take too long for the inmates to blame us. When we heard rumblings, we looked at each other and bolted. I led them around the block while Jan got his car. Ultimately we lost our jobs after being spotted at a free John Sinclair rally later that summer. The Feds took pictures and a couple of weeks later we were on the carpet.

Years later, in the early 80's, we ran into each other at a restaurant in Sausalito. Go figure. I arrived there after years in and out of Central America. He had split for Cali by 73. Fast forward to the above picture and we are standing on his front deck. That's not just any deck but a piece of California history.

The haunt of my favorite drunken philosopher, Alan Watts. Back in the day I always travelled with one of his books.

The workshop

the lucky couple!
Our favorite way to visit our friends in Napa---the high speed ferry.

Going

Coming home

It's not all play and no work when I come back to SF. Sourcing materials etc. This time, to put an end to "everything but the kitchen sink" we picked one up to replace the sink we had to return because it was damaged last time I was here.

Next, make a case that meets the airline specs for luggage.

It just made it in a super strong nylon bag from Amazon

This is what greeted the TSA when they opened it leaving their card. Wilson, blueberries, coffee, clothes and fresh bread.
Only one movie worth seeing as it was shot in SF....

And finally I know you always wanted to know how the cable cars work. Even after all these years there's still tourist things to be done!

Party is over....back to work now. The infamous red eye....
